Rugby: Rwanda National team ‘Silver Backs’ defeated Friends of Rwandan Rugby from UK

The Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) in partnership with the British Charity Friends of Rwandan Rugby (FoRR) organized a freindly match wth Silverback versus FoRR selected team 15 aside.

 

As results of this, On June 17, 2022, after days in Rwanda, this team played a friendly match of 15 aside against the National team “Silverback”.

 

This match took place at the Red Cross Pitch in Kacyiru, ended with the Rwandan team defeating FoRR by 21 to 20 point.

After the match, the National team coach, Kamali Vincent, said:” The match was a tough and difficult because the FoRR team strongly dominated us in the first half especially with their forward and strong support in their Ruck it was hard to move the ball quick to our backline in second half we changed tactics in attacking with quick ofload of the ball to create more gaps in their defense ”.

RRF President Kamanda Tharcisse, said the one week training with FoRR experienced coaches and players, Referees have helped have helped to learn a lot from them and this message have helped see the progress of our national team 15 aside , we compete with Rugby Africa competition where we face strong nations in Rugby having this friendly match will help our team to improve the level of playing in septemebr 15 our national team will play again a friendly match with Kibubu Rugby club from Belgium .”

“ I would like to thank national team players and staff for the committement to win this match and also FoRR Coaches, players , referees in the tour and we look forward to continue working with FoRR to develop  Rugby in Rwanda ”. He added

 

Before to play with the national team, FoRR Team  participated in the Big Ant Studios Rugby 7s 2022 international tournament which took place on 11 and 12 June 2022 with both men and Women team.

The Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) as the umbrella organisation that unites the entire rugby fraternity in Rwanda. RRF has been administering, developing and generally organising all rugby activities for 13 years now, not only through out Rwanda but on the continental level as well. The RRF has since grown further countrywide with over 600 active players, 60 female players, a robust fun club, ardent well wishers and intensive involvement in the development of the game in over 70 schools from all districts in Rwanda not to mention the RRF’s participation in community projects.
