Rwanda Rugby  Federation Anounced 2020  Activity Calender

The Rwanda Rugby Federation  anounced 2020 program activities in Club meeting held on Sunday 1st march ,2020 at Remera Master Grill conducted by Philip Gakirage  the RRF Vice President as well as federation members the clubs, it was decided the new schedule will include the first and second division teams, a Women 7’s, Tag Rugby, and talent detention program.

Unlike previous seasons , this year the National League will be played in two division , first Division  will include the top five teams basing on last year’s ranking Lions de Fer , Thousand Hills , Resilience  , Muhanga thunders and Kigali Sharks teams will play each other home and away first  and  second round ranking will be made to determine the winner of the National League , the last will be relegated to join second division.

On other hand the second Division will be made up with seven teams  ( Ur Grizzlies,Puma Kamonyi, Remera Buffalloes, Burera Tigers and Rwamagana Bananas, IPRC Tumba  and New Rugby Team of Rubavu. The team will be grouped in three League, South league (UR Grizzlies, Puma Kamonyi) , Central League (Rwamagana Bananas and Remera Buffalloes) , North west league (Burera Tigers, IPRC Tumba and Rubavu), the second division will kick off in May,2020.

Genocide Memorial Tournament is set to take place on 14th june, the tournament will attract some teams  from neighbouring countries

Women’s Rugby 7’s  will be taken into consideration to continue growing women’s Rugby in may and talent detenction in October. Tag Rugby Festival will be organized at the national level which will incude primary schools from Huye, Ruhango,Muhanga, Kigali,Kamonyi to continue growing Rugby in primary school under in june and under 17 Rugby seven in september as well as under 15 talent detenction in November.

This year the national team ‘’ Silverbacks’’ focus will be in seven and 15 aside , in may National team training and friendly match with UK selected team through the partnership of Friends of Rwanda Rugby , seven circuit in September and participating in safari sevens.

‘’ we’re very committed  to strengthen our National 15 aside  League by putting in place First and second Division so as to increase competitiveness of our league which will help us to get good players joining the national team.’’ Said Gakirage Philip  the Vice  president of Rwanda Rugby Federation.

Meanwhile the Rugby National League will kick of with  a competitive fixture on 21st march,2020 ,Resilience from Rusizi will host Thousand Hills and Lions de Fer will host Muhanga thunders on Sunday 22nd , march , 2020 in Kigali

Rwanda Rugby

The Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) as the umbrella organisation that unites the entire rugby fraternity in Rwanda. RRF has been administering, developing and generally organising all rugby activities for 13 years now, not only through out Rwanda but on the continental level as well. The RRF has since grown further countrywide with over 600 active players, 60 female players, a robust fun club, ardent well wishers and intensive involvement in the development of the game in over 70 schools from all districts in Rwanda not to mention the RRF’s participation in community projects.
